MOH REFINING PROPOSED SOP FOR GYMS - AHMAD FAIZAL
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) is refining the proposed standard operating procedure (SOP) prepared by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) involving the reopening of gyms and other recreational sports facilities, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said KBS was working with the MOH in developing several guidelines to enable gyms to reopen, including the issue of ventilation.
"God willing, in the near future, we can reopen gyms and allow sports such as tenpin bowling with stipulated SOPs and the ventilation issue that we need to overcome," he said during a question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat, here.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Faizal said a total of 262 athletes from 15 sports were actively undergoing full-time training under the guidance of experienced coaches through the National Training Programme to provide a group of quality 'back-up' athletes.

MASZLEE LOOKS TO HELP MOE, MOHE RECOVER EDUCATION SECTOR POST COVID-19
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- Simpang Renggam MP Dr Maszlee Malik hopes he gets an opportunity to work with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in helping the sector recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maszlee during a press conference at Parliament House today said he had handed over a book containing 26 initiatives to Senior Education Minister Datuk Radzi Jidin and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad in Parliament yesterday.
He said the book entitled ‘Statement on Education Policy and the COVID-19 Pandemic: Solutions for Malaysia’ also described several post-COVID strategies for the two sectors, including short- and long-term plans.
Among them are New Education System Model, Technoperneur Students, TVET 4.0, and Mastery-Based Flexible and Modular Learning.

OVER 210,000 CALLS SEEKING PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT RECEIVED BY GOV’T AGENCIES
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- A total of 210,930 calls seeking emotional support and counseling have been recorded from March 2020 to September 2021 through several government agency helplines, including the Ministry of Health's (MOH) Psychosocial Support Helpline, says Deputy Health Minister II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
He said 82.2 per cent of them were closely related to psychological problems caused by various social issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said there was a significant increase in the number of calls received from January to September this year, which was 166,869 calls compared to 44,061 calls received last year.
“This psychosocial support service also helps reduce mental problems such as depression, anxiety, and stress through tele-counseling sessions.
"During the period from March 2021 to Sept 2021, a total of 956 cases or 0.4 per cent suspected of having mental disorders or illnesses were referred to a family physician or psychiatrist for further intervention," he said during the question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat.
He was replying to a question from Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PAS-Dungun) on the effectiveness of the MOH Psychosocial Support Helpline established to help people suffering from mental health disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic.

GOV’T URGED TO ESTABLISH SPECIAL COMMITTEE TO HELP CHILDREN WHO LOST PARENTS TO COVID-19
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- An MP has suggested the government set up a special COVID-19 Children’s Services Committee to help some 1,500 students nationwide whose parents have died due to COVID-19.
Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (PH-Hang Tuah Jaya) said this could be part of a special programme to help the affected children.
"These children have not only lost their those they depend on, but have also gone through such a traumatic situation.
"This is an urgent matter in which the government should take action immediately," he said when debating the Motion of Thanks on the Royal Address at the Parliamentary sitting here today.
