News Reading: SMK Putrajaya , Kolej Tunku Kurshiah students crowned winners

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 -- Nurul Izzah Kamal and Zalea Zamin have been crowned the winners of the 2021 Secondary School Level News Reading Challenge.

Nurul Izzah, 17 of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Putrajaya Precinct 11 (1) tonight won the Bahasa Malaysia news category while Zalea, 16 from Kolej Tunku Kurshiah emerged the winner of the English news category.

Nurul Izzah and Zalea beat stiff competition from eight other finalists to ace the challenge.

Nurul Izzah and Zalea who chose the home-based learning and teaching (PdPR) topic, each brought home RM300 in cash, a tablet sponsored by Putrajaya Holdings, shopping vouchers worth RM300 from Pusat Pakaian Hari-Hari, exclusive souvenirs from the Malaysian News Agency (Bernama) and certificates of participation.

"I would like to thank the school for giving me the opportunity to participate in this competition, also to my parents and friends for their support," said Nurul Izzah after she was announced the winner for the Bahasa Malaysia news category.

Meanwhile, Zalea attributed her victory to the support she received from her teachers, family and friends.

Wan Auni Umayrah Wan Mohd Asri from SMK Paka and Vanessa Tay Qin Ee from SMK (P) Temenggong Ibrahim emerged runners-up, while Siti Nur Aisyah Nazlan from SMK Kubang Kerian and Genevieve Elizabeth Grippin from SMK Putrajaya Presint 11 (1) took third place in the respective categories.

Other finalists in the Bahasa Malaysia category were Adlina Aqilah Jamaludin from  SMK Chukai, Kemaman and Nik Nusratina Aisyah Mohamad Nazeri from SMK Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, while Fareisha Adriana Farez from SMK Kubang Kerian and  Hajar Puteri Sulaiman were the finalists in the English news category.

The online news reading challenge was organised by SMK Putrajaya Precinct 11 (1) and SMK Kubang Kerian in collaboration with Bernama. The month-long challenge that started last July 15 received about 400 entries.
