KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 -- Shopee will distribute food aid boxes to 50,000 families from underprivileged and marginalised communities nationwide under its ‘Kotak Kasih Shopee’ initiative.
The e-commerce platform is collaborating with the non-governmental organisation (NGO), Food Aid Foundation to identify and assist residents from low-cost housing projects, welfare homes, the disabled and the Orang Asli community.
Shopee chief operating officer Terence Pang said the ‘Kotak Kasih Shopee’ was one the programmes under the #ShopeeGivesBack campaign aimed at creating awareness and encouraging contributions to the various welfare organisations as well as support marginalised communities, including animals.
Among the contributions to be distributed are basic food items like rice, vermicelli, sugar, chocolate malt drinks, biscuits, creamer, cooking oil, canned sardines, coffee and soap.
“We are grateful that we are able to help the needy, especially now when they are facing the COVID-19 pandemic and this initiative is not possible without the cooperation of Felda and Food Aid Foundation,” he said in a statement today.
KPF Trading Sdn Bhd senior manager Mohd Irwan Ahmad Sanusi said that besides providing assistance to marginalised communities, the initiative would see products from Koperasi Permodalan Felda and local entrepreneurs included in the ‘Kotak Kasih Shopee’ package.
“We also created job opportunities for youths from Felda settlements in Negeri Sembilan for the packaging of the food aid boxes,” he said.
Food Aid Foundation founder Rick Chee, meanwhile, hoped that more such collaborations could be forged between the public and private sectors for the benefit of the local communities since many are finding it tough to earn a living due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Food Aid Foundation is very excited to be part of the initiative to identify local communities that are in need and help distribute these food aid boxes,” he said.
