COVID: Perak Health Dept ensures hospital management at optimum level

IPOH, Aug 2 -- The Perak Health Department has outlined various strategies to manage Health Ministry (MOH) hospitals in the state since the COVID-19 pandemic hit last year to ensure services remain at optimum level.

State Health director Dr Ding Lay Ming said a total of 14 MOH hospitals were involved in treating COVID-19 patients in Perak with 963 beds and 81 intensive care unit (ICU) beds.

“Besides that, the Low-Risk COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre at Arena Badminton, Ipoh with a capacity of 520 beds has been set up with cooperation from the state government.

“This brings the total number of beds prepared for COVID-19 patients in Perak to 1,564,” she said in a statement tonight.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a post on Facebook Saturday night said Perak has recorded an increase in COVID-19 categories four and five cases requiring treatment at the ICU.

He said as of Saturday, there were 121 COVID-19 patients in the state who were being treated in the ICU with an average rate of seven days of ICU bed use exceeding 100 per cent.

Perak recorded 748 new COVID-19 cases today.
