KOTA BHARU, July 29 – To help the low income group impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Malaysian Social Entrepreneurs Foundation (MSEF) has allocated RM4.5 million to provide 1.12 million free meals beginning today via selected restaurants nationwide.
MSEF deputy chairman, Datuk Chan Wah Kiang, said the lunch and dinner riceboxes will be given out using a drive-through method at 100 restaurants.
“Each restaurant will prepare 100 riceboxes for lunch and dinner, and people can pick them up at the drive-through.
“The riceboxes average RM4 each. One person gets one box, but if they need two they can tell the staffer,” he said after the launch of “Freemeal Kelantan” at Restoran Sri Chengmai on Jalan Sri Cemerlang today which was also attended by owner, Tan Swim Him, and Eco Shop, Kubang Kerian training manager, Tan Pooi Shin.
Chan said three other Kelantan restaurants in Gua Musang, Tanah Merah and Pasir Puteh were also providing the free meals.
He said the programme slogan was “Lapar dahaga sama dirasai, makan minum sama dikongsi” (food is shared because we all experience hunger and thirst).
“The once-every-three-days distribution beginning today will last a month and the menu – chicken, fish and the like -- will be rotated,” said Chan, while adding that lunch will be given out from 11.30am and dinner from 5.30pm.
