LABUAN, July 24 -- The hardships suffered by a fisherman in Labuan who had to borrow a boat to support his family has received the attention of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).
MAIWP handed over a new boat worth RM9,250 to Mohd Salihan Awang Damit @Kurus, 37, from Kampung Bebuloh Laut today to ease his burden.
His own boat could not be repaired after it was hit by a storm and the father of six had to borrow his brother’s boat to provide for his family.
Mohd Salihan also receives monthly financial assistance from MAIWP.
Labuan MAIWP manager Md Fadzli Md Saad said the assistance was channelled to help the local community to improve their economic status.
