Moderate earthquake hits Sumatra, Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit southern Sumatra, Indonesia at 5.12 am today.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the earthquake occurred 110 kilometres (km) south of Bengkulu, Indonesia, at a depth of 57 km.

It does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it added.
