05/06/2021 07:25 PM

IPOH, June 5 -- The Perak government is planning to launch several programmes in order to revive tourism activities at the Kinta Valley Geopark, here, after the Movement Control Order 3.0 (MCO 3.0). The geopark is geological heritage site.

State Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi said among them (the programmes) were Geopark vouchers, a "virtual run", bird watching, and ecotourism activities as well as the Lenggong Geopark Gallery which is under development.

“The geopark needs a multifaceted and continuous initiative -- in terms of development, conservation, community, education, research and services as well as tourists -- that requires a combination of cooperation from various parties.

"The Kinta Valley Geopark is under the management of the state government agency, Perak State Parks Corporation. Tourism Perak and local authorities help the state government a lot for promotional activities and local community development projects," she said.

She said this during the opening speech of the "Program Seni, Budaya dan Geopark" in conjunction with World Environment Day. The programme was organised by Koloni Karyawan Aman Jaya (PORT) on Port Ipoh Facebook, today. It was also attended by the Geopark's adviser, Professor Emeritus Dr Mohd Shafeea Leman.

She said apart from ecotourism and geotourism, the state government through PORT had taken an approach so that the arts and culture in Perak were not marginalised.

She said the geopark's identity was not only focused on environmental treasures such as endangered or endemic species of flora and fauna as well as the economic and tourism sectors alone but also on the artistic and cultural elements that complemented the geopark's ecosystem according to international standards.

Nolee Ashilin said with the vibrancy of local arts and cultural activities supported by adequate promotions, the Kinta Valley Geopark would be able to offer more options to tourists, both domestic and from abroad.
