Malaysian Press Night 2021 postponed - MPI

19/05/2021 08:30 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 -- The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) has postponed the Malaysian Press Night 2021 (MWM 2021), which is slated for June 18, to Aug 20 following the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0 in force.

MPI chief executive officer Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya, however, said the new date of MWM 2021 was subject to the government’s approval.

“With a heavy heart, I would like to inform that MWM 2021 had to be postponed because I anticipate the MCO 3.0 which will end on June 6 will be extended due to the spike in COVID-19 cases.

“This is also to ensure the safety of guests as well as to comply with the government's announcement,” he said in a statement.

The MWM 2021 sponsorship handover ceremony which supposed to take place on May 25 had also been postponed and is expected to be held on July 8.

MWM 2021 aims to recognise the best journalistic work of local media practitioners throughout 2020 through the MPI-PETRONAS 2020 Journalism Award.

Last year, MPI as the organiser followed the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government with only 300 guests allowed to attend the MWM 2020 event.
