KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 -- Over the nine years since its inception in 2012, University Malaysia of Computer Science and Engineering (UNIMY) has produced graduates who have gone on to excel in their respective fields and achieve career success.
A shining example is one of the university’s former student, Ng Kwang Meng, 26, who now owns a company focusing on software development.
The 2Kinjo Sdn Bhd chief technology officer and co-founder said the person he was today was all thanks to the guidance and exposure he received at UNIMY.
Ng, who was among the first batch of Bachelor of Computer Science graduates from the university in 2014, said the university had provided him with a platform to carve a successful career.
“Thanks to UNIMY as a platform, I was actually able to widen my exposure on technology and programming, and eventually it has shaped me into the person I am today,” the UNIMY alumni said in an exclusive interview with Bernama, recently.
Ng, who is better known as Kenny, added that UNIMY had entered into partnerships with top universities in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and United States of America to provide international exposure to its students.
“UNIMY has also given me quite a lot of industrial exposure and opportunities to grow,” said Ng, who was the recipient of the 2018 Chancellor’s Award for the most outstanding achievements in academic and non-academic performance at the undergraduate level.
He personally recommended those who wished to pursue their tertiary studies to choose UNIMY, as it offered a wide range of technology-related programmes with the potential of bringing out the best in each and every student.
Recalling the time when he was sponsored to go to University of Melbourne in Australia, as part of his industrial training, Ng said it was one of the best moments in his life, as he learnt many new things, especially with regard to the fundamentals of programming and coding.
“I was grateful to UNIMY and its management for the great opportunity. That 21-day-trip really opened my eyes on how overseas education works,” he added.
Describing UNIMY as ‘the rising tech university’, Ng said he was confident that the university would continue to produce prestigious graduates in line with its new tagline, ‘Creating A Digital Nation’.
Meanwhile, Azrul Ikhwan Zulkifli, 25, who is also one of the university’s alumni, has made strides in his career as an ethical hacker with Vienna-based company SEC Consult, which is one of the leading consultancies in the area of cyber and application security.
The Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons) said his three years at the university had provided him the opportunity to develop several soft skills, especially in terms of communication, management and negotiation.
“These skills have helped me to boost my confidence to go further. In my final year at the university, I managed to win first place in the 2018 KPMG Cyber Technology Challenge, which was a national-level competition. I managed to understand the mechanism behind the software, and I can create mobile applications, web applications and desktop applications on my own,” he added.
The university offers, among other courses, a Diploma in Computer Science (Game Development), Diploma in Interactive and Digital Media, Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Information Technology (Cyber Security) and Diploma in Information Systems (Business Computing).
It also offers a foundation in Computer Science and Engineering, Bachelor of Software Engineering, Bachelor of Computer Engineering and Bachelor of Business Administration (Management Information Systems), apart from master’s and doctorate of philosophy degrees.
