'Kindness Kitchen Cafe' offers free food for poor

ALOR SETAR,  April 17  -- A non -governmental organisation (NGO), known as Kindness Malaysia, has set up a 'Kindness Kitchen Cafe', offering free food for the poor for the breaking of fast.

Its chairman, Mohd Azrul Mohd Razak said the poor and needy, as well as the homeless, orphans and persons with disabilities (PwD), are welcomed to the cafe, which is located at Jalan Sultanah here.

“For this Ramadan, we only operate on Saturday from 7 pm to 9 pm due to shortage ,” he told Bernama here.

He said the cafe, which was launched last Tuesday, was set up following a survey which found that the poor, especially those with large families, had never or rarely eat out.

"Now, they can eat out by coming to this Kindness Kitchen Cafe. They can eat for free,” he said, adding that some 25 volunteers will work in rotation at the cafe, including to cook.

He welcomed volunteers to help with projects carried out by Kindness Malaysia (Kedah) and those interested to call 016-7074798, while those keen to contribute or sponsor the breaking of fast meal during Ramadan can do so at Maybank account 5520-9523-6240 (Kindness Malaysia).
