KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 -- A total of 302 asnaf (tithe recipients) received food aid from Malaysian Reinsurance Berhad (Malaysia Re) through its ‘Projek Lori Rezeki and Projek Bakul Rezeki’ programme last Monday.
According to a statement by Malaysian RE, the Projek Lori Rezeki programme involved 160 asnaf from the Sri Tioman 1 public housing at Taman Melati here, and they received wet items such as fish, chicken and vegetables.
"Through the Projek Bakul Rezeki, a total of 142 asnaf from the Seri Langkawi 2 public housing, Gombak Setia here, received dry items such as rice, cooking oil, noodles, flour and others,” the statement said.
Both projects are aimed to alleviate the burden of needy people and the aid was presented by Senior Vice President and Head of Malaysian Re Retakaful Division (MRRD), Mohammad Nizam Yahya in a brief ceremony.
Both food donation programmes used the ‘wakalah’ (protection) zakat facility provided by Zakat Collection Centres (PPZ) through the MRRD business.
“The initiative is the first corporate social responsibility carried out by MRRD to channel assistance in the form of essential items to asnaf recipients from selected locations.
