MELAKA, March 19 -- The Melaka state government today launched the State Legislative Catalogue in line with the target of about 80 per cent of the state's laws in accordance with the standards and norms of Good Regulatory Practice (GRP) by 2035.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said the Melaka State Legislative Catalogue was important to realise the "Melakaku Maju Jaya 2035" (PSMJ 2035) strategic plan for the next 15 years.
He said the legal catalogue is a compilation of lists of legislation adopted by state and local authorities, published by the state government through the Melaka State Legal Adviser's Office in collaboration with the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC).
"This initiative proves that the state government is committed to implementing all improvements in governance and regulation as well as ensuring that the service delivery system in the state is implemented effectively.
"It is hoped that this published document can be a source of reference for all stakeholders in an effort to ensure that the Melaka state slogan of 'Melakaku Maju Jaya, Rakyat Bahagia, Menggamit Dunia' (My Melaka Progresses, Prosperous People, Beckoning the World) can be realised besides helping to improve governance in the state," he said.
Sulaiman said this to reporters after the launch of the Melaka State Legislative Catalogue and the reading of the corruption-free pledge of the Legal Adviser's Office, here, today.
The ceremony involved 52 legal officers in the state. The event was also attended by MPC director-general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman, Melaka Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission director Awangkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awang Ismail, and Melaka state legal adviser Datuk Mohamad Abazafree Mohd Abas.
Meanwhile, Sulaiman said a total of 52 cases of arrest, involving civil servants due to abuse of power, breach of trust, corruption, and leakage of funds were recorded from 2019 to February this year.
“Of that number, there have been 38 convictions, and the state government takes this matter seriously as this can not only tarnish one’s own personality but also damage the performance and reputation of the organisation, state, and country.
"As a civil servant who bears the trust of the people and the country, the main thing that must be present in every individual is integrity and it is closely related to issues of ethics and noble values," he added.
