KPWKM, MAFI get new Secretary-General

PUTRAJAYA, March 10 -- Economic Planning Unit deputy director-general Dr Maziah Che Yusoff has been appointed the secretary-general of the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) effective today.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, who made the announcement today, said Maziah, 54, takes over from Datuk Dr Junaidah Kamaruddin.

He said Maziah has extensive experience in various fields including planning and research, economics and human capital development.

"With her experience and credibility, I am confident that she is able to continue the mission of the ministry in achieving gender equality, family development and a caring society which are the foundation for the formation of a distinguished developed nation," he said in a statement.

Maziah, who has been in the civil service for 29 years, holds a PhD in International Economics from University of Leeds, a Master of Economics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a Bachelor of Arts from University of Toledo, Ohio.

In a separate statement, Mohd Zuki announced the appointment of Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid as the new secretary-general of the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry (MAFI), also effective today.

Haslina, 53, who has been in the civil service for 25 years, was MAFI deputy secretary-general (Policy) as well as deputy secretary-general (Tourism) of Tourism and Culture Ministry.

She holds a Master of Laws from Keio University, Japan and a Bachelor of Economics and Administration from Universiti Malaya.
