KUCHING, Jan 30 -- Ten days after the flood situation in Sarawak had returned to normal, the state has had to open a temporary relief centre (PPS) in the Samarahan Division at 7 pm today following heavy rain over the past few days.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its report, said 26 evacuees had been placed at the PPS in Lubok Buntin in Simunjan, 90 km from here, after their homes were inundated by knee-deep flood water.
The SDMC also announced that water levels in the rivers in three areas, namely Kuching, Samarahan and Bintulu Divisions, had exceeded the warning level.
“Residents near the Satok B, Sungai Sarawak Basin area in Kuching Division are urged to be alert because the water level of the river in the area has exceeded 2.53 metres (m).
“In addition, residents at the Asa Jaya Water Intake, Samarahan Basin, Samarahan Division, are also urged to be on the alert because the water level of the local river has exceeded 3.31m,” according to the statement.
The SDMC also warned residents close to Rumah Abua, Tatau Basin in the Bintulu Division to be on the alert after the water level of its river had passed the 10.70m mark.
