24/01/2021 09:29 PM

SIBU, Jan 24 -- The business sector in Sibu will be required to apply for police permit for work-related travels during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, said Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee.

The committee, after a consultation with the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), decided that the current practice of employers issuing letters for their employees to go to work would be discontinued effective Jan 27.

“The management of essential services are allowed to operate at 30 per cent capacity during the MCO period.

“These businesses will now be required to apply for a police permit for work-related travel on behalf of their employees at any police station in the Sibu Division,” it said in a statement today, adding that this was aimed at ensuring compliance of the standard operating procedures and assisting police in enforcing the 14-day MCO, which came into effect on Jan 16.

For enquires, the business community can contact the COVID-19 hotline at 013-9994158.
