MERSING, Jan 14 -- A man and two women were hurt when the cars they were in were hit by a falling tree in Jalan Tenglu Laut here this morning.
Mersing Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Amir Hamzah Haris said the department received a distress call at 7 am on the mishap that befell Mujahid Muhadi, 21, and Azealia Musfirah Nordin, 31, who were in a Proton Saga Aeroback and Fatin Nazira Mohd Asri, 27, who was in a Perodua Myvi.
“On arrival at the location, two rescue teams including an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) unit comprising 12 personnel found a 30-metre tall tree having a circumference of three metres had fallen on the Proton Saga Aeroback and Perodua Myvi.
“All three victims had already been brought of their cars by members of the public before the rescue teams arrived,” he said in a statement.
Amir Hamzah said Mujahid and Azealia Musfirah were given preliminary treatment by the EMRS unit before being brought to the Mersing Hospital in their ambulance while Fatin Nazira was brought to the same hospital by an ambulance from the hospital. The status of their injuries was not immediately available.
He said the department's personnel cut the tree into smaller pieces using two chainsaws and that the clearing up operation was completed at 7.50 am
