KOTA KINABALU, Jan 14 -- Two houses have collapsed while five others were badly damaged when the high tide phenomenon hit two villages in Kudat at 8.30 pm yesterday, exceeding the dangerous level.
The two villages are Kampung Sri Aman and Kampung Tanjung Kapor.
State Civil Defence Force, in a statement today, said 41 people from eight families have been evacuated to a temporary relief centre at Dewan Arena Belia dan Sukan Kudat, which was opened at 11 pm.
“The high hide is at a dangerous level and the respective agencies have advised the villagers to take precautionary measures,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, in Kota Kinabalu, high tide phenomenon and strong winds caused the seawater to overflow at Pantai Tanjung Lipat area at around 7 pm but receded at 11.50 pm.
