PUTRAJAYA, Dec 18 -- The Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) for Christmas this year will take effect from Dec 22 to 31, involving 19 essential festive season items, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced today.
He said the scheme is being implemented in accordance with the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
“The scheme will be effective three days before Christmas, on the day of Christmas (Dec 25), and six days after the festival.
“Although this year’s Christmas Day will be celebrated on a moderate-scale according to the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the government (to curb the spread of COVID-19), the demand for essential items for Christmas is still expected to rise compared to during non-festive season,” he said when announcing the scheme via the ministry’s Facebook Live app today.

Nanta said the maximum manufacture, wholesale and retail prices for Christmas 2020 were in line with current price trends and ahead of the festive day.
"There are also lower and unchanged prices compared to the SHMMP for Deepavali 2020," he said.
He said the KPDNHEP had set the maximum manufacture, wholesale and retail prices based on price monitoring in all districts nationwide in 2019 as well as from Jan to Dec this year.
"It is based on the price collection set weekly by KPDNHEP and the views of various relevant government agencies, namely the Department of Agriculture Malaysia, Department of Veterinary Services and FAMA," he said.
He said discussions were also held with the manufacturers, importers, suppliers and wholesalers of the goods.
Meanwhile, Nanta said traders who failed to comply with the regulations would be subjected to strict action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
He said enforcement officers would monitor the prices of goods at supermarkets, markets and retail outlets nationwide.
Consumers can also report any complaints related to price issues during the SHMMP Christmas 2020, by calling the Malaysia Government Call Centre (MyGCC) at 03-8000 8000 or Information and Strategic Operations Centre (PIGOS) at 03-8882 6245/6088.
Complaints can also be lodged by sending email to e-aduan@kpdnhep.gov.my or through the Ez ADU smart phone application or sending WhatsApp texts to 019-279 4317.
