SINGAPORE, Dec 5 -- “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” — Steve Jobs
This inspirational career quote by Jobs, a co-founder of Apple Inc may be suitable for Muhammad Khidir Samsudin, a Malaysian, who was just engraved his career path in Singapore.
Wanted to be called as Eday, he and his colleague Mohd Yuamirul Che Yussoff, recently became the focus of attention on social media when they returned an iPad Pro belonging to a Singaporean, which they found in a recycle bin.
Michelle Lim took to Facebook on Dec 2 to express her appreciation towards them and also appended a message from Eday informing her about the discovery of the device which she lost a year ago.
Apart from their kind act, what attracted Bernama most was that Eday, 25, introduced himself as a "rubbish collector" to the lady in that message.
Bernama contacted Eday, who hails from Batu Pahat, Johor, to understand the career selection of this Science Development degree holder from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
"It is not wrong for me to gain experience from below in this waste management sector," explained Eday who aspires to gain experiences here for three years.
"This will make me better understand the work process and I will be more appreciative of my subordinates one day," he said, adding that he gets full blessing from both his parents.
When asked why not doing the same job in Malaysia, Eday admits that the two-pronged approach also takes into account the advantage of a stronger Singapore currency at the moment.
"What I get here at the end of every month surpasses the salary of junior executives in Malaysia. After all, to be a junior executive in Malaysia, it requires you at least a three-year working experience.
“If I return to Malaysia one day, I can say that I have an experience of working in a foreign company as well," said Eday who is now working with SembWaste Pte Ltd, which is part of the Sembcorp Group, a leading energy, urban development and marine group.
According to Eday, SembWaste is not his first employer as in Malaysia he had done a lot of part time jobs including temporary teacher at a school in Batu Pahat while doing a small business related to wearing mascots.
Lim who also felt that Eday and Mohd Yuamirul, 26, deserved a “more fulfilling and rewarding job”.
“They are young, hardworking and most importantly, honest and humble. Also realised they are degree holders, speak and write well too. These two young gentlemen can do something that suit their calibre. Please share,” she wrote.
