KOTA KINABALU, Nov 28 -- Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) hopes that the Federal government will assist the state government to fulfill the pledges made during the state election in September.
Sabah Bersatu chief Datuk Hajiji Noor said this would also facilitate the ‘Sabah Maju Jaya’ Development Plan which would be tabled by the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GPS)-led state government soon.
“Sabah needs more assistance from the Federal government. We need to add and create new income for the state, which requires cooperation from the Federal-level to accomplish the state’s rights and interests as enshrined in the Federal Constitution,” he said.
Hajiji said this when proposing the motion to support the president’s speech in conjunction with Bersatu’s Annual General Meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here, today.
The assembly was held virtually from several designated locations, with strict compliance of the standard operating procedures in view of the COVID-19 situation in the country.
The Sabah chief minister said he was confident that the people in the state would always appreciate the services and kindness of the Federal government led by Perikatan Nasional.
Hajiji also proposed several core agendas to be implemented including steering the party forward wisely based on the struggle of the indigenous people without denying the rights and interests of other races.
He said the experience from the last state election had taught that cooperation and consensus between the indigenous people and other communities were far more important than racial political rhetoric.
“Let our constitution, movements, discussions and actions always reflect the openness and inclusiveness to bring the indigenous people together in Bersatu,” he said.
Apart from that, he said efforts to find new members, register voters and establish new branches must be conducted aggressively to allow the party to function more efficiently in providing the services to the people.
Hajiji said Sabah also proposed that the party consider the creation of a new wing, especially for young women.
“Based on the latest data, only 20 per cent of the total Srikandi Bersatu (women’s wing) membership nationwide are aged 30 and below,” he said.
