Two killed in crash on East Coast Highway

KUANTAN, Nov 28 -- Two men were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into another vehicle at KM220.3 of the East Coast Highway yesterday.

Pahang traffic police chief Supt Kamarulzaman Jusoh said Mohamad Syukri Mat Yusof, 27, and Indonesian Suryano, 30, who were passengers in a Proton Wira, died on the spot in the 10.50 pm incident.

He said the car, heading from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan, had gone out of control and hit the railing by the side of the road before ramming into a Toyota Yaris on the right lane.

The Proton Wira driver, Muhammad Firdaus Jalani, 18, suffered serious head injuries while a passenger of the Toyota Yaris, Mohammad Syafiq Azmi, 22, was slightly injured, he added. Both were taken to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan here.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris, Mohamad Sofian Ab Wahab, 22, escaped unhurt.
