Malaysia's no. 1 tower runner completes attempt at Guinness World Records, awaits official results

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 -- Twenty six-year-old Malaysian tower running athlete Soh Wai Ching has completed his attempt to break the current Guinness World Records for the greatest vertical height stair climbing in one hour.

Soh who is Asia's number one tower running athlete, completed his run at 10 pm at the Four Seasons Hotel here by clocking in an accumulated vertical running distance of 1.295 km. 

The current world record is held by David Robles Tapia of Spain who clocked in a distance of 1.227 km in an hour.

However the result of Soh's attempt is currently being studied by Guinness World Records officials who explained through a video call that it might take up to to two days for the official results to be out. 

"We are going through the footage( of Soh's attempt) and it will take two days to get the results out because we will have to analyse the footage in detail and it is a long video," Guinness World Records official adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar explained. 

Speaking to reporters after the run, Soh said that he was somewhat happy for clicking in a good time. 

"I am glad that I managed to clock in good time with the run but I am a little disappointed that I couldn’t reach my personal target distance of 1.3 km within the hour.

"I will work hard in my next run to break well over this target," he said adding that he plans to run up the Petronas Twin Tower in the future when the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. 

For the record, Soh is currently the world's number two tower runner.
