JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 5 -- Police have detained seven Indonesians and a Myanmar man and are tracking down an Indonesian known as ‘Amir’ to facilitate the investigation into a fight in which a Bangladeshi man died at a construction site in Taman Kenari, Segamat two days ago.
Johor police chief, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said all eight foreigners, aged 29 to 53, were arrested at the construction site immediately after the incident after police received a tip-off about 10.55 pm from the public about a fight between a group of Bangladeshis and Indonesians, all of whom worked at the construction site.
“Segamat district police arrived at the scene and found a 30-year-old Bangladeshi stabbed and another Bangladeshi, aged 44, already dead after being hit by a car,” he said in a statement today.
Ayob Khan said the investigation revealed that the fight happened about 10.40 pm and believed to have started when the victims admonished one of the Indonesians for being too loud on his mobile phone and disturbing the rest of them who were sleeping.
He said the Indonesian suspect then called his friends to attack the victims, causing one of them to be rammed by a car, another stabbed with a kitchen knife and another hit on the head with a stone thrown at him.
“Besides detaining the seven Indonesians and one Myanmar man, police also found at the construction site, a silver Proton Gen2 car that was believed to be used by the suspect at large (Amir) in the incident,” he said.
According to Ayob Khan, the 25-year-old ‘Amir’ is 165 centimetres tall and has a tanned skin tone.
The stab victim was treated at a hospital and the case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Act for murder and Section 324 of the same act for intentionally causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
All suspects are being remanded until Nov 8 and anyone with information relating to the incident should contact 07-9312222 or investigating officer ASP Norisyah Abd Rahim at 019-6507299.
