KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 -- The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN)’s third Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) will be undergoing acceptance tests in the port after completing the construction phase and has been lowered into the water at the Wuchang Ship Building Industry Group Ltd (WSIG) wharf in Wuhan, China on Oct 28.
RMN Headquarters Strategic Communications Branch in a statement announced that the vessel would undergoing several series of Acceptance Tests at the port and Acceptance Tests at sea before handing over the ship to RMN at the end of Sept 2021.
“The third LMS would be joining LMS Squadron 11th with KD Keris (First LMS) and Sundang (second LMS) and another vessel (Fourth LMS) which is expected to be launched in November 2020.
“The crew of the third LMS is expected to be mobilised in China for training on the ship in May 2021,” said the statement.
The statement also announced that the official naming ceremony of the third LMS has been postponed and would be carried out simultaneously with the physical handover of the vessel scheduled in Sept 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this regard, the handover of Sundang (Second LMS) which was scheduled in April 2020 was also affected following the COVID-19 pandemic and would be handed over to the government when Sundang crew completed adjustment training which was postponed in China.
