GEORGE TOWN, Oct 28 -- The Penang government welcomes industry players and the corporate sector to contribute to Penang Future Foundation (PFF) to retain local talents in the country.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today said PFF is a state government initiative to aid outstanding and deserving Malaysian youths to pursue tertiary studies in public and private universities in Malaysia.
He said the foundation, established in 2015, started off with RM40 million and to date, had awarded 511 scholarships.
"We hope the corporate sector and industry players can appreciate the functions and role of PFF in recognising the importance of STEM, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and the fields of Accountancy and Finance, as well as retaining our local talents," he said at a press conference, here.
Chow said the only condition for the PFF scholarship beneficiaries was to work in Penang for five years after their graduation.
"It is not necessary to work in the government agencies, as they can also work in the private sector or factories, as long as these are in Penang," he added.
Earlier today, National Instruments (NI) Penang, represented by its managing director P. Rajesh, contributed RM1 million to PFF as well as RM150,000 to the Penang Science Cluster.
