MAINJ to meet do, ADO over following Sunni Islam, rejecting cult teachings

27/10/2020 08:41 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 27  -- The Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ) will hold a meeting with district and senior officers in the state to explain the beliefs of Sunnah Wal Jamaah (Sunni Islam) followers and on rejecting opposing teachings, including the ideology of Hizbut Tahrir Malaysia (HTM).

MAINJ advisor Datuk Dr Noh Gadut said the meeting was expected to be held this December or early January, next year.

He said the directive to hold the meeting came from Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Tosrin Jarvanthi, aimed at making the administrators the ‘eyes and ears’ of MAINJ and the Muslim community in dealing with ideologies that were opposed to Sunni teachings.

"We will call all senior officers including district officers to clearly explain matters related to Hizbut Tahrir," he told reporters.

He was met by reporters after launching the office of the first halal food and beverage delivery app, Odejee and the office of the online news portal, The VOICE, here today.

Last Saturday, Tosrin was reported to have said that the Johor government took the HTM issue seriously and was monitoring the existence of HTM preaching centres in Johor although the threat was still under control and not worrying yet.

He said the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAIJ) was working with the police to follow the developments and movement of HTM and was ready to raid their preaching centres.
