MELAKA, Oct 17 -- The development of a new district in Melaka, the Masjid Tanah district, will be fully realised in 2025 at the latest, said Melaka Regional, Rural Development, Flood Management and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
He said that at present, the state government, through related agencies and departments, is collecting data and information needed to submit to the Federal government and Cabinet for approval.
"The physical border demarcation process for Masjid Tanah district is ongoing and its development is expected to benefit around 150,000 residents.
"In addition, the new district’s development will create new job opportunities and services to the people of the state, especially those living in Masjid Tanah,” he told reporters after officiating the opening of the 8th Al Ikhlas Gadget branch at Klebang today.
He added that the Masjid Tanah district development will boost economic activity, specifically through the Kuala Linggi International Port and Universiti Malaysia Melaka that is being built in the area.
Melaka currently has three full districts, namely Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah, in addition to the sub-district of Sungai Rambai.
