Video of SMK Senai special needs students wins #RukunNegaraHour competition

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 -- A three-minute video displaying the involvement of teachers and 20 special needs students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Senai, Johor in translating the meaning of Rukun Negara won the heart of the jury in the #RukunNegaraHour competition organised by the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).

SMK Senai bagged the grand prize of a 49-inch television sponsored by Shopee which was presented by Bernama deputy Editor-in-Chief (News) Abdul Rahman Ahmad to the school teacher Norizan Mohamed.

#RukunNegaraHour assistant producer Afnan Afiq Alias said the video has its own uniqueness when it depicted cooperation between teachers and students which in line with the principles of Rukun Negara.

“We see the application of good values that the teachers are trying to highlight and the way they teach the elements of Rukun Negara using sign language,” he said.

Nearly 300 entries were received for the competition which was held in the special Rukun Negara Hour programme on Bernama TV and Bernama Radio on Sept 16 to enliven the Rukun Negara 50th anniversary and Malaysia Day celebrations.

Participants need to upload a photo or video featuring the meaning of Rukun Negara on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #RukunNegaraHour during the special programme, aired from 9 to 11am.

Meanwhile, Norizan said her students are always inculcated with the aspect of love for the country, and taught the values of Rukun Negara.

“As a teacher, I always emphasise on discipline because it is the key to ensuring that students understand what we teach them as well as enabling them to deepen appreciation of the values outlined in the Rukun Negara," she said.

The competition also saw 27 other winners chosen from their entries submitted through social media platforms, as well as seven winners selected during the live broadcast of the programme.
