KOTA KINABALU, Sept 18 -- The Flood Mitigation Project (RTB) in Sabah is one of the projects being implemented by the Environment and Water Ministry (KASA) to overcome and reduce the risk of flooding in the state.
Its deputy minister, Datuk Dr Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad, in a statement today said 16 RTBs and one environmentally friendly drainage project were implemented by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) under the 11th Malaysia Plan at a cost of RM827.94.
He said DID had also drafted applications for additional 12 such projects for Sabah under the 12th Malaysia Plan involving a cost of RM482 million.
The ministry was also working to upgrade the sewerage system, water treatment plants, drainage distribution system as well as working on projects to reduce the risk of coastal erosion, he added.
The deputy ministry has visited the Sungai Tebongon RTB in Kampung Teguli, Putatan in Sabah to see the progress of the project implemented by JPS to fix the inefficient drainage system causing frequent flash floods in the village and nearby roads.
The RM18.1 million RTB to build a 1.75 km long concrete ditch and culverts began on Aug 15 last year with a construction period of 24 months and would benefit about 3,000 villagers, it said in the statement.
