KANGAR, Sept 18 -- The personal or human touch provided by civil servants is still needed as an important link between the government and the people despite the drive towards electronic government or e-government, said Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president Adnan Mat.
He said although digitalisation would improve the efficiency of the government's delivery system, there were still some tasks that could only be carried out directly by civil servants themselves.
"There are certain tasks that must be delivered with the 'human touch' from the government to the people," he told reporters during the COVID-19 Frontliners Appreciation event here today.
Adnan said Cuepacs fully supported and was grateful to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for giving an assurance that the 1.6 million-strong civil service workforce would not be downsized despite the digitalisation effort.
Muhyiddin was reported to have said that civil servants' contributions were still required to enhance the government's delivery services, increase productivity as well as service quality.
