Flood improves in Kerian, more evacuees returned home

IPOH, Sept 17  -- The flood situation in the Kerian district here has improved with most of the evacuees having returned home, leaving only 19 people still at a relief centre today, from 126 people yesterday.

According to the state Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the remaining flood evacuees , involving seven families, are  from Kampung Parit Abu Hassan, Alor Pongsu, and they are being accommodated at Sekolah Kebangsaan Alor Pongsu as at 10 am today.

“They comprise three men, seven women, seven children and two infants,” it said in a statement here, today.

A total of 17 agencies including the police, Civil Defence Force, Social Welfare Department and Rela have been tasked to monitor the flood situation and evacuees at the relief centre.

The relief centre was opened since late Sunday afternoon following flash floods in the area.
