KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 -- A strong earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, occurred near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, at 10.44 am today.
The Malaysian Meteorology Department, in a statement, said the quake occurred about 148 kilometre south east of Morioka, Japan, at a depth of 49 kilometre.
However, it posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
