Perak to implement urban fisheries project

IPOH,  Sept 9 -- The Perak government is planning to carry out urban fisheries project in an area covering 110 hectares in the districts of Kinta and Kampar for the benefit of 11 fishing communities.

State Agriculture, Fisheries, Plantation and Food Security Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamahri said the projects would utilise disused mining pools in, among others, Kampung Changkat Tin, Tanjung Tualang; Taman Aman, Kampar; Kampung Changkat Legong, Gopeng and Kampung Changkat Bendera, Malim Nawar.

A working paper on the project would be tabled to the state executive council for approval soon, he said, adding that the state government had allocated RM1.7 million for the project.

“The concept of this urban fishing project meets the needs of the local community and will benefit about 110 households in the two districts,” he told a media conference here today.

He said the types of fish that would be reared in the disused mining pools included the red tilapia, patin, jelawat and lampam.
