MELAKA, Aug 24 -- The Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam today received the Darjah Seri Paduka Setia from the Melaka state government.
The award which carries the Tun Seri Setia title was presented by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali at the Balai Istiadat, Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh here.
At the ceremony, Mohd Ali presented the Darjah Utama Negeri Melaka which carries the title Datuk Seri Utama, to Sulaiman in conjunction with the birthday celebration of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka.
Also in attendance during the ceremony were Mohd Ali's wife, Toh Puan Asmah Abd Rahman and Sulaiman's wife Datin Munira M. Yusop.
State secretary Datuk Seri Dr Hasim Hassan announced the conferment of awards while mufti Datuk Abdul Halim Tawil recited the doa selamat.
On July 22, the Melaka state assembly passed a motion to establish the Darjah Seri Paduka Setia Melaka (SPSM) in conjunction with the appointment of the seventh Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka.
Sulaiman when proposing the motion was reported to have said the SPSM would only be awarded to individuals who had been appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka or an equivalent or higher position.
Mohd Ali is the first native of the state to be appointed Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka and the appointment was made on June 5.
