BANGKOK, Aug 14 -- Thailand has reported 17 new COVID-19 cases, including 15 Thais who returned from India, bringing the tally to 3,376 cases.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths remains at 58, with zero fatalities over the last 24 hours.
The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said the 15 Thais, aged between 12 and 72 years, including six females, arrived in Thailand on Aug 8 and have been undergoing compulsory quarantine at state facilities.
It said the other two were a 54-year-old Thai man who travelled from the United States and a 25-year-old Thai male student who returned from Australia.
“To date, 3,173 COVID-19 patients have recovered and returned home while another 143 remain warded.
“Since April 3 until yesterday, 76,574 people, both Thais and foreigners, have entered the kingdom and been undergoing compulsory quarantine at state facilities.
“Out of this number, 68,504 have completed the 14-day quarantine and returned home. Meanwhile, 439 people tested positive for COVID-19,” the CCSA added in a statement.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesman, Chirdkiat Atthakor said the ministry had assisted 69,764 Thais who arrived from 97 countries, including 45,943 who travelled by air, 22,854 by land and 969 by water since April 3.
He said to date, there were about 1.6 million Thais still living abroad.
“In August, about 14,942 Thais registered to return home,” he said at a press conference, here, today.
Meanwhile, Chirdkiat said, the MFA had granted entry into the kingdom to 5,700 foreigners including diplomats, permanent residents and non-Thai work permit holders, their spouses and children, medical tourists, Thailand Elite cardholders (those with long-term residence visas and multiple-entry residence visas) and migrant workers from neighbouring countries.
Since April 3, Thailand has banned all international passenger flights to the kingdom to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, no tourists have been allowed to enter the kingdom.
