05/08/2020 08:31 PM

GEORGE TOWN, Aug 5 – Penang residents and businesses are required to switch to the contact-tracing MySejahtera app from the PGCare app by the end of this month to make it easier for the Ministry of Health to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, said he will recommend the switchover at the next State Executive Council Meeting (MMK).

“This is to adhere to the decision by the Federal Government and to protect PGCare users from running into problems,” he said at a press conference today.

PGCare, which has 1.35 million users and 35,521 registered businesses, was launched on May 15.

To date it has recorded 16.48 million business premises check-ins as required by a National Security Council (MKN) standard operating procedure (SOP) for visitor details to be logged.

Chow said he will ask the state MKN to inform enforcement agencies to allow residents and businesses till the end of the month to change to the MySejahtera app which will be gazetted by the Attorney General’s Chambers soon and become compulsory.
