Spike in COVID-19 cases due to active screening activities - Sarawak Health Director

01/08/2020 09:08 PM

KUCHING, Aug 1 -- The high number of positive COVID-19 cases reported in Sarawak on July 28 was the result of active screening activities conducted by the Kuching Health Office over two consecutive days.

State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing said through the active screening activities conducted on July 26 and 27, many members of the public had their swab test samples taken with several of them were detected positive.

"The department is also aware of complaints that there are individuals who have been referred and admitted to hospital and associated with positive COVID-19 cases were not considered as a case reported to the State Disaster Management Committee," he said in a statement here today.

Dr Chin was commenting on the statement regarding the matter made by Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong Wui Wui through her social media account yesterday.

He said all COVID-19 suspected cases would have to undergo a repeat screening test and would be isolated and not placed together with other patients.
