KOTA KINABALU, July 24 -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has urged Muslims especially in Sabah to bequeath their property to the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) in an effort to improve the management of endowment (wakaf) property in the state.
He said the awareness of wakaf among Muslim was still lacking, whether it was general, specific or cash endowments.
“I urge all Muslims to leave their property or cash to MUIS in order to improve the economy of Muslims through the instrument of wakaf,” he said.
Mohd Shafie said this in his speech which was read out by State Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Moktar at the launch of the 'al-camera temperature detection' wakaf programme at the State Mosque here today.
He also thanked Dr Azman Ibrahim for donating the temperature scanner camera to the mosque to be used by worshippers before prayers as part of the effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Dr Azman said this was the first such camera installed in a mosque in the state by a local company and it would help the mosque adhere to the standard operating procedure set by the Health Ministry, especially during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).
