NONTHABURI, July 15 – The Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC), Kelab Malaysia of Thailand (KMT) and Tourism Malaysia donated 50,000 baht (RM6,755) to the Kredtrakarn Protection and Occupational Development Centre (Kredtrakarn Home) for girls and women under age 18 who were trafficked and suffer from social problems.
The cheque was passed to Kredtrakarn Home director, Rattana Nontapattamadul, today by Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Jojie Samuel and KMT president, Ten Voon Teng.
Deputy chief of mission, Suzilah Mohd Sidek, Tourism Malaysia (Bangkok) deputy director, Mazreena Mohd Yusof, and iCare Thailand Foundation’s Maria McNally, were also present during the cheque handover.
Partnering the iCare Thailand Foundation and supported by the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, the group also bought them eyeglasses.
“Some of the victims here need eyeglasses for their daily activities. We will continue working with them in the future on other programmes,” said Samuel.
“We have been trying to bring in NGOs to help the residents. Thank you to MTCC, KMT, Tourism Malaysia and Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok for lending a helping hand,” Rattana told Bernama.
The state-run home in Pakkred District shelters 74 women and girls. Among other things it provides vocational training, legal assistance and reintegration preparation.
