KUCHING, July 4 -- Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi today launched the Citarasa Malaysia@Bumi Kenyalang 2020 programme here, the first location organising a nationwide roadshow in promoting local products.
According to him, the programme, which is part of the ‘Buy Malaysian Products’ campaign, aims to promote local goods and boost the domestic economy.
“The programme is also a government initiative to assist local companies and entrepreneurs in marketing their products.
“It is also effective in generating more demand for local products and services, encouraging consumers to value Malaysian-made goods and boost the spirit of patriotism among the people,” he told reporters after the launch of the programme at a shopping complex here.
He said the Malaysian merchandising campaign was a large-scale government initiative, bringing together a wide range of business brands comprising various service clusters and offering a wide range of products to consumers at an affordable price.
Earlier in his speech, Alexander said the overall sales value recorded for last year's purchase of Malaysian goods was RM513 million, an increase of 23.3 per cent from 2018.
He said the campaign was continued this year to revive the retail sector and restore domestic market demands, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.
“I urge all Malaysians to help build the country’s economy by buying Malaysian goods,” he said.
