BANGKOK, June 24 -- Thailand plans to reopen its doors to some foreign travellers including investors, business executives and medical tourists starting July 1, after a month of zero local COVID-19 transmission.
Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said foreigners allowed to enter the kingdom with compulsory 14-day quarantine include business executives and investors, professionals, skilled workers, permanent residents and foreigners whose families live in Thailand, and international teachers and students.
However, he said short-term businessmen and government guests as well as tourists under travel bubble plans are among those allowed to enter the kingdom without undergoing 14-day quarantine although officials are considering alternative ways to monitor them.
“Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan o-cha will chair the CCSA meeting on Monday to finalise the measures,” he said at a COVID-19 daily briefing here today.
Thaweesilp said those who had registered to enter Thailand so far are 700 business executives and investors, 15,400 skilled workers, 2,000 permanent residents and foreigners whose families are in Thailand, and 2,000 international teachers and students.
He said about 30,000 medical and wellness tourists had registered to enter the kingdom in Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Hatyai provinces.
As the COVID-19 situation in the kingdom continues to improve, Thaweesilp said, all businesses and venues including entertainment outlets – pubs, bars and karaokes – will resume operations on July 1.
Under the final stage of relaxation, all schools, internet cafés and gaming shops will also be reopened with strict health guidelines.
Thailand today reported one new COVID-19 case and zero fatalities over the last 24 hours, marking 30 consecutive days of no local transmission.
Today's positive case is a 31-year-old Thai man who returned from the Philippines on June 17.
