KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 -- An article titled ‘Legasi Osman Bashah Diteruskan Oleh Anak Tn Haji Asafali – Hero Baru Bandar Diraja Kuala Kangsar’ that has gone viral on WhatsApp is false, according to Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
In a statement issued today, Bernama explained that it had received complaints from the public regarding the said article which had misused the official Bernama.com website logo.
“Bernama reviewed the article and it is clear that the news wasn’t produced by Bernama as it doesn’t have any record of releasing that kind of news. In fact some of the features, such as the headline, writing and Bernama housestyle, are completely different.
“As such, Bernama wants to remind the public to be wary and not to trust any viral news via WhatsApp or any other social media app by parties misusing the Bernama name and logo,” said the statement.
Bernama added that it would continuously monitor the matter and warn any party trying to confuse the public that legal action could be taken against them.
Those with any information or doubts regarding the matter can contact the Bernama Corporate Communications Unit at 03-2696 2306 (Puan Zarina Rozali) and 03-2696 2307 (Mrs Carolyn Fung) or send an email to corpcomm@bernama.com.
