KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 -- The following is an update from the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) Quick Response Team on countering fake news related to COVID-19 on social media.
1. Kedah Health Department director Dr Mohd Fikri Ujang dismisses allegations that the Kedah Health Department is making efforts to trace customers of two well-known supermarkets in Alor Setar which are said to have been patronised by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) students who are positive for COVID-19.
He stressed that investigations found the students concerned had never patronised the two supermarkets during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
2. Dungun Police Chief Supt Baharudin Abdullah denies an allegation that one 'Siska Kirana' was given special treatment to return to her kampung because she purportedly had 'kabel' (connections with the police), as was viralled on social media.
He explained that permission was given to her to make an inter-state journey from Dungun to Putrajaya at the end of April to settle matters relating to her taska in Putrajaya which was broken into. She was also given permission to return because she had left her children behind in Dungun.
