Countering fake news related to COVID-19 on social media, as at 1000 hrs May 12 - KKMM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12  -- The following is the morning update from the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) Quick Response Team on countering fake news related to COVID-19 on social media.

 

1. Kuala Lumpur City Hall  (DBKL) denies a viral posting  that a grocery shop owned by a foreigner in Hartamas is back in operations after action was taken on it on May 8.

 DBKL explained that checks found the premises is licensed and is owned a by a Malaysian citizen and complies with UUK 20 Undang-Undang Kecil Tred (local trade by-laws), Licensing and Industrial (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) 2016 which allows the licensee to hire foreign workers who have valid work permits.

 

DBKL said enforcement action was taken on a nearby premises which is still closed to date.

 

2. The Seremban City Council  denies that hawkers or petty traders whose stalls were demolished by MBS during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and Conditional MCO (CMCO) will not be allowed to resume their businesses.

 

MBS clarified that they can apply to get back their assets from MBS after the CMCO ends so that they can reopen their businesses.
