17/04/2020 01:47 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 16  -- The Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital is prepared to be turned into another hospital specifically to treat COVID-19 patients if necessary, its commanding officer Brig Gen Datuk Dr Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan said.

As of now, the hospital has only been gazetted as non-COVID-19 hospital and only helping in conducting tests on patients’ samples.

He said all equipment were already in place and all preparations were made according to the standard operating procedure set by the Ministry of Health, but the final decision to turn the hospital into a COVID-19 hospital is up to the Armed Forces top leadership and the current situation of the pandemic.

“At the moment, the hospital and its laboratories are operating 24 hours with 50 personnel at a time,” he said after giving a briefing to reporters on COVID-19 Health and Medical Procedure at the hospital here today.

He explained that the hospital is only conducting screening and swab tests on patients before handing over those infected by COVID-19 to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) or the Sungai Buloh Hospital for further treatment.

“We have conducted tests for 2,662 patients samples in COVID-19 investigations with an average 200 samples received daily from other hospitals and district health offices as well as private hospitals,” he said.
