13/04/2020 07:39 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 -- Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has installed 5G transmission stations at two COVID-19 quarantine centres in Selangor to provide free WIFI access through the 5G network for users there.

The free installation, involving 50 units of 5G Fixed Wireless Access terminal at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS), Serdang and the Health Ministry Training Institute, Sungai Buloh, recently will provide up to 500Mbps WiFi connection to users.

TM Group chief executive officer Datuk Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin said the transmission stations, installed under the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), would allow the frontliners, medical teams and patients admitted to the centres to enjoy enhanced mobile broadband services through 5G connectivity.

“With the efficiency and convenience of 5G connectivity, the frontliners and medical teams will continue to be productive in responding to any emergency situations and provide the necessary treatment; while the patients can remain connected to their families and loved ones throughout their stay at the quarantine centres.

“The installation of the 5G transmission stations also reflects our expertise and ability in bringing 5G services to Malaysians nationwide,” he said in a statement today.

He said the initiative was an extension of TM’s involvement in the 5G Demonstration Project (5GDP) in Langkawi and Subang Jaya recently.

“We will continue to find more ways to help reduce the pandemic’s impact on the economy, as well as on our customers, frontline teams and members and those in need; while ensuring our services are provided without any disruptions,” he said.

Noor Kamarul said TM was grateful to the government and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for the trust and assistance provided from the planning process to implementation, which was completed in just a few days.

“We will continue to build the foundation for the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and 5G implementation nationwide to provide services for a more digital society and lifestyle, digital businesses and industry verticals, as well as digital government towards raising the people’s quality of life,” he said.
