Barber shop, hair salon, Ramadan bazaar not allowed during MCO

PUTRAJAYA,  April 13  -- Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has decided not to allow barber shops, optical shops, as well as hair and beauty salons to operate during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

The decision also covers all forms of Ramadan bazaars, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob when announcing the decision by the prime minister today.

He made the announcement at a daily media conference after chairing the special ministerial committee meeting on MCO here today.

“The government has listened to the views of the people. The government also seeks the advice of experts and non-governmental organisations on the matter,” he said

He hoped that with the announcement it would end the concern among the public on the matter.

Last Friday, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) issued a list of service sectors allowed to operate, among them hair salons and optical shops, during the third phase of MCO.

On the appeal by students of institutions of higher learning to be allowed to return home, Ismail Sabri said that the government has decided that they should remain at their respective universities.

"Insyaallah, their food and beverages will be borne by the government,” he said, adding that the decision was made to ensure success of efforts made to break the chain of the COVID-19 infection.

It is hoped that the people and students will understand the action taken as it is to protect them, their families and the society, he added.
