Sabah blood banks remain open during MCO

06/04/2020 07:53 PM

KOTA KINABALU, April 6 -- Blood banks in Sabah are operating as normal during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, said Sabah Health director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi.

She said this was necessary to ensure an uninterrupted supply of blood to meet the needs of hospitals, including for emergency cases and thalassemia patients.

However, Dr Christina admitted that some people were apprehensive of going to hospitals to donate blood following the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as the Red Crescent Society are also helping us (Sabah Health Department) by organising blood donation programmes,” she told reporters here today.

“As such, members of the public are invited to continue donating blood in hospitals or participate in blood donation programmes organised by NGOs to ensure blood banks have adequate supplies.” she added.
