KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale was reported to have occurred in Irian Jaya, Indonesia, at 5.36 a.m. today.
According to a Malaysian Meteorological Department statement, the quake was centred at 181 kilometer (km) west of Jayapura, Indonesia, at a depth of 63 km.
However, the earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, the statement said.
